The coronavirus pandemic has had widespread impacts, but there is one people may not have expected – an increase in gardening.
While it is still very early for planting, New Bern Farm and Garden says seeds are flying off the shelves, and sales are higher than they have ever been.
Over the last five years, garden store owner Beth Mize says seeds of this amount do not normally sell this early.
With an increase in demand and the effects of the pandemic, store owners like Mize say they are seeing shortages.
The issues created by the pandemic are now leading to rising prices seed prices, so Mize is advising customers to act fast.
People are also buying starter vegetable plants when they cannot get their hands on seeds, Mize said; it is a good option for cold crop plants like lettuce.
